I’ve known you for years, still our trust remains shattered

We traveled together – for worse or for better

In return for your heart I gave you a curse

How much damage?  How many scars?

The hurt goes as deep as the night’s countless stars

Can’t feel the pain that is buried so deep in your soul

The lightening strikes deadly making a bottomless hole

My love is so true that my eyes start to tear,

Whenever I think of you, whether you’re far or you’re near

Your heart remained pure as you kept your hand in the flame

While your skin burnt and seared, you never did blame

Your love is so strong, you still hold my hand

After all these years you just understand

I say that I love you, I say that I care

Along with hope comes disgrace and despair

The feeling of lust, our love at first sight

Our souls joined together in the darkness of night

I watched you sleep as I studied your face

Your eyes closed and so peaceful under God’s gentle grace

Ugly things that I’ve done, why have you stayed?

Most others would run feeling used and betrayed

Must be you’re an angel sent by God on a mission,

While others can’t hear me you patiently listen

My words and my actions – the lies and the greed

To put it quite simply, you’ve just been my friend

Unconditional love you so readily share
